Pastor Paul’s Article: The Priority of Leadership

Psalm 78:70–72 (NASB95)

70 He also chose David His servant and took him from the sheepfolds; 71 from the care of the ewes with suckling lambs He brought him to shepherd Jacob His people, and Israel His inheritance. 72 So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart and guided them with his skillful hands.

The Word of God places a high priority on leadership. You see it in both the Old Testament (Ex. 18:21) and the New Testament (Acts 6; 1 Timothy 3; Titus 1). Leadership is vital in government, business, the home, and in the local church. Over the years we have offered a number of training courses to prepare people to be servant-leaders in our church. Many of our elders, deacons, and staff have benefited from that training. In recent years we have seen a number of those leaders graduate to heaven or move out of the area. This is why we must continually be training new leaders both for our present ministries and for future church plants.

Starting in January, we will be offering a Leadership Training class for men and women on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. It will take place at the church so everyone can take advantage of the wonderful programs provided for children and youth. We will meet from 7:00-8:30pm at a location yet to be determined (depends on how many register). The curriculum we will use is the same that we use with Shepherding The Nations (STN) to train pastors and church leaders in other countries. It has been translated into more than 40 languages and we used some of it in classes when we had The Bridge Bible Institute. If we go through all 10 books it will take 2-3 years. To learn more about it you can go to https://www.bibletraining.com/curriculum. There will be a nominal cost for each book.

Why on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday? Partly because students will need time between classes to study and do some homework assignments. The other reason is that Randy Leinen and I just started a LIFE Group on Wednesday nights at the church that meets on the 2nd & 4th Wednesday nights. In both cases we are taking advantage of the wonderful training offered for our young people so that parents are free to come.

Please prayerfully consider joining us for this vital leadership training. We believe it will have a profound impact on your personal life and our church, and it will enable us to better carry out our mission statement: “Our mission is to glorify God by multiplying mature disciples, and healthy churches, that know Jesus Christ and make Him known.” Please pray that a multitude of leaders will be raised up through this training to lead The Bridge (and other local churches) into the future. I am truly looking forward to this opportunity to interact with current and future leaders!
