WHY WE SING – PART 9
Another reason we sing is because we engage in an eternal and glorious activity. What in the world do I mean by that? What I mean is that singing is one of the few things we do now that we will do forever in heaven (Rev 15:2-4).
The angelic creatures and elders worship God day and night (Rev 4:8-11) and one day we will join them with millions of voices from every tribe, tongue, and nation (Rev 7:9-12) to worship our God. Can you take a moment to imagine that scene? How glorious will that be?
This eternal activity of worship is something we can do right now. We can already worship God with our congregation each Sunday morning as we sing together and lift our voices to the One who is worthy forever. So I hope you’ll join me this week as we sing out loudly to our God and King.

WHO WOULD HAVE DREAMED
This song was released by Sovereign Grace Music in 2014. It is a beautiful song that calls us to consider the wonder of the birth of Christ. “Who would have dreamed or ever foreseen that we could hold God in our hands?” What incredible humility the Son of God had to bring himself so low. The One who is worthy of all glory and honor born as a small child in a stable! These are familiar truths but they ought to fill us with awe and wonder. Below are the lyrics for this song.
Verse 1
On a starlit hillside, shepherds watched their sheep
Slowly, David’s city drifted off to sleep
But to this little town of no great renown
The Lord had a promise to keepVerse 2
Prophets had foretold it, a mighty King would come
Long awaited Ruler, God’s Anointed One
But the Sovereign of all looked helpless and small
As God gave the world His own SonChorus
And who would have dreamed or ever foreseen
That we could hold God in our hands?
The Giver of Life is born in the night
Revealing God’s glorious plan
To save the worldVerse 3
Wondrous gift of heaven: the Father sends the Son
Planned from time eternal, moved by holy love
He will carry our curse and death He’ll reverse
So we can be daughters and sons
As we approach this Christmas season we’ll be singing a number of Christmas songs. I hope that as we reflect on these songs we prepare our hearts to celebrate this special season together with joy and gratitude.
Can’t wait for Sunday!
