Sundays
Imagine a judge sitting in his courtroom presiding over the trial of an accused criminal. The evidence presented is overwhelming, obvious, irrefutable, and condemning. The reality is that no matter what the attitude, emotions, or thoughts of the offender, HE IS GUILTY. Thus it is the reality of all mankind before a perfect, holy, righteous, and just God who created all things. WE ARE GUILTY (James 2:10; Romans 3:23)! So how are we to deal with this guilt? What can be done? The Bible tells us that there is only one way to truly deal with guilt, REPENT. Repentance followed by confession and restitution leads to forgiveness and ultimately brings HOPE.Yet the psychologically saturated world around us pushes back and says that guilt is false and should be rejected, dismissed, or medicated away. We wrap up this discussion about Guilt and Repentance on Sunday June 7 before studying Forgiveness.
Wednesdays
Where did everything come from? Why is there pain and suffering? How was God working in history? Why are there so many different people groups and languages? What happened to the dinosaurs?
As we finished our walk through the first 11 chapters of Genesis, we reviewed the power that the God-breathed Word of God has to explain our world as it is today. We then took a brief look at Abraham’s faith, a faith that the promises of God are worth trusting. This trust resulted in Abraham’s subsequent obedience to the almost cryptic command to leave his home, his people, and his family, to go wherever God sent him. This pattern of TRUST followed by OBEDIENCE is what the writer of Hebrews says that God counted to him as righteousness (salvation). Abraham’s faith, like our own, was made evident by his willingness to act on what he believed.
