Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me. – Colossians 1:28-29
What is a Transformation Group?
Transformation Groups (TG) are a simple way to embrace the most essential elements of spiritual growth. The groups are a foundational tool for growing in maturity, following Christ with passion and purpose, with one another – true discipleship.
Each TG is 2-5 men or women (same gender) who meet regularly – One hour, once a week is recommended. The goal is for common Christians to come together for the uncommon work of reproducing disciples of Jesus, who in turn make Jesus disciples within their sphere of influence.
As a result, the group members are prayerfully on the lookout for others in their lives who they can invite along. Each member is challenged to embrace the Biblical values of community, life transformation (true growth in Christ), and multiplying followers of Jesus. Once the group grows to 5 (max) the goal is then to “multiply “into 2 groups once a 6th member is ready to join in. Then, 2 groups of 3 continue in the same multiplication process and so on…
ONE COMMITMENT
To serve, love, and lead others into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. This is living out the mission of Christ in community together. The commitment embraces the “one anothers” of the New Testament and fosters true accountability, gracious confidentiality, and the value of reproducibility. We are privileged to pass on what we are learning and growing in.
TWO QUALIFICATIONS
• A desperate need for Christ (Luke 5:29 -32)
• Faithfulness to the process (2 Timothy 2:2)
The group should be committed to humility and teachability with one another and a willingness to speak into each other’s lives for the sake of growing in Christ and living life on His mission.
THREE TASKS
- Confess Your Sins to One Another – James 5:16
- Read and Study the Word of God – 2 Timothy 2:15
- Pray Together for Worship, Life and Mission – Acts 2:42
Real Life Accountability
Proverbs 27:17
The following questions can be used as a guide for open and transparent conversation in the group for accountability. This kind of ongoing conversation along with other points of encouragement will stimulate growth in character and confession of sin in a safe environment that values honesty, vulnerability, trust, and grace. There will be an ongoing commitment to confidentiality and mutual care. This would exclude placing others within the group in a place of compromise by confessing a serious unresolved crime.
