Worship Matters 3.13.23

DOES SINGING REALLY MATTER?

YES, IT REALLY DOES! Did you know that the Bible contains the word “sing” over 400 times?! And at least 50 of those are commands. And we can’t forget the Psalms, literally a songbook inspired by God! I believe that God has designed people to sing. And that means everyone!

He’s given us this incredible expression through song to commune with Him and with one another. Music is God’s gift to us where we can express our thoughts, feelings, and desires in a unique and beautiful way — and there’s no end to how many different songs can be written!

Our worship singing is an opportunity for us to pray for God’s help, remind ourselves of the gospel and God’s promises, and unite with fellow believers as we together — in one Spirit — declare truths about God. And we can do all of this in song!

Psalm 96:1-2
Oh sing to the LORD a new song;
sing to the LORD, all the earth!
Sing to the LORD, bless his name;
tell of his salvation from day to day.

Psalm 149:1
Praise the LORD!
Sing to the LORD a new song,
his praise in the assembly of the godly!

HE WEARS A CROWN

This week we’ll be introducing a song called “He Wears A Crown.” This song was written by Bryan McCleery and published in 2019. Bryan is a songwriter and worship leader at CrossBridge Community Church in San Antonio Texas. Below are the lyrics for this song for you to reflect on this week.

Verse 1:
Lift up your eyes to Heaven’s Son
Stand now before the worthy One
In His power and perfect love
Lift up your eyes to Christ the King
He is both man and Majesty
Over every living thing

Chorus 1:
Hallelujah, highest praise
Name above all other names
Through Earth and Heaven, let it resound
He bore a cross, now He wears a crown

Verse 2:
Forever seated on the throne
The cеnter of all eternal songs
Praisе belongs to Him alone
And worship the Lamb that has been slain
For even death could not contain
All His glory in a grave

Chorus 2:
Lifted to the highest place
Name above all other names
Through Earth and Heaven, let it resound
He bore a cross, now He wears a crown

Bridge:
He is our victory, the curse is undone
Its power is broken because of the blood
The captives are singing, the battle is won
Salvation belongs to our God, oh
He is our victory, the curse is undone
Its power is broken because of the blood
The captives are singing, the battle is won
Salvation belongs to our God

This song contains many truths found in Scripture, but as I read through the lyrics I am reminded of the preeminence of Christ found in Colossians 1:13-20:

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Let’s reflect this week on the greatness of Christ because of who He is and what He has done for us. Aaand let’s sing about him!

Can’t wait for Sunday!
