Hope Changes Everything!

In 1977, I was attending Logos Bible Study Center and needed a job. A friend of mine told me about a man named Dawson McAllister who wrote discipleship materials for youth and shipped them all over the world. I ended up working for a few months in their shipping department until they moved out of state. How surprised I was to learn many years later that Dawson at one time was the youth pastor at First Baptist Church of Reseda (now The Bridge Bible Fellowship). Dawson died one year ago today (12/17/20) after decades of faithful service for Christ. I thought it would be appropriate to pass on to you “40 Bible Verses of Hope” from his ministry, “TheHopeLine.” Take a few moments during this busy season to slowly and prayerfully read through the following verses OUT LOUD. As you read and hear these verses, may the truth of God encourage you deeply and fill you with hope and peace.

God Offers Peace for Those Who Trust in Him

John 14:27 (NASB95) – 27 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”

Philippians 4:6–7 (NASB95) – 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Jeremiah 17:7–8 (NASB95) – 7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord. 8 “For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit.”

Isaiah 26:3 (NASB95) – 3 “The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, because he trusts in You.”

God Calms the Fears of Those Who Turn to Him

When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you.”

Psalm 23:4 (NASB95) – 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Luke 12:22–24 (NASB95) – 22 And He said to His disciples, “For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds!”

Isaiah 41:13 (NASB95) – 13 “For I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand, Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’”

Hebrews 13:6 (NASB95) – 6 so that we confidently say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?”

God’s Hope Is Real to Those Who Have Faith

Psalm 33:18–22 (NASB95) – 18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope for His lovingkindness, 19 to deliver their soul from death and to keep them alive in famine. 20 Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart rejoices in Him, because we trust in His holy name. 22 Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us, according as we have hoped in You.

Romans 5:1–5 (NASB95) – 1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Romans 15:4 (NASB95) – 4 For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

2 Corinthians 4:16–18 (NASB95) – 16 Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. 17 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Romans 12:12 (NASB95) – 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer,

Hebrews 10:23–24 (NASB95) – 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,

God is in Control of the Coronavirus: We Can Trust Him

Proverbs 3:5–6 (NASB95) – 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Romans 8:38–39 (NASB95) – 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Daniel 2:20–21 (NASB95) – 20 Daniel said, “Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to Him. 21 It is He who changes the times and the epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings; He gives wisdom to wise men and knowledge to men of understanding.”

Isaiah 55:8–9 (NASB95) – 8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

Psalm 33:4–11 (NASB95) – 4 For the word of the Lord is upright, and all His work is done in faithfulness. 5 He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the lovingkindness of the Lord. 6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deeps in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. 9 For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. 10 The Lord nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of the peoples. 11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation.
