Brethren, Pray for Us

“Brethren, pray for us.” (1 Thess. 5:35 – NASB95)

Echoing the plea of the Apostle Paul, we (church staff and elders) really need your prayers. When Covid-19 became a household word about one year ago, we had to begin making decisions for our church family that put us in a “no win” situation. Opinions on this issue are strong, and “experts” disagree with each other vehemently. As a result, many church members across the country are choosing to leave their churches over it. Some are leaving because their church will not defy the government (based on their biblical convictions). Others are leaving because their church is defying the government (based on their biblical convictions). This has grieved pastors so much that one survey revealed up to 50% of pastors are planning on leaving their church when the pandemic is over. How sad!

I am grateful for the elders of this church. They have been seeking the mind of the Lord through prayer and the study of Scripture so that they can lead this church through these unprecedented times. We know that we are fallible, but we are trusting the Lord to provide grace and wisdom. We appreciate your graciousness in supporting us in our decisions even if you don’t always agree (Heb. 13:17). And thank you for being diligent to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Eph. 4:3).

Please pray for our elder meeting this coming Tuesday, March 9th. We have a number of significant issues to discuss, including our policies regarding Covid-19 regulations and recommendations. Recent court cases are having an impact on what churches can do in L.A. County. There is light at the end of the tunnel!

And please join us in person this Sunday as we study James 5:13 and learn about the priority of prayer and praise. Prayer is one of the greatest weaknesses in the American church and I want it to become a strength at The Bridge. I look forward to seeing you this Sunday morning!

“Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a good conscience, desiring to conduct ourselves honorably in all things.” (Heb. 13:18 – NASB95)
